A.W. Field & Co were advertising as “Homœopathic Chemists, Dentists, etc”, at least as early as March 1885. At that time their premises were at the Chancery Buildings, 121 George Street. Their hours of consultation were from 9 to 1 and 2 to 6; Saturdays 9 to 10; Sundays 9 to 10 and 1 to 5.

During April 1885 he purchased George Slater’s interest in the business of Henry Leake & Co. at 91 Edward Street.  For a while he operated both from George Street and Edward Street.

In the 1893 and 1895 editions of  Pugh’s Almanac & Queensland Directory, Alfred William Field and Co were listed as homœopathic chemists, with their address being Adelaide Street, Brisbane. In 1897 they were still at Adelaide Street, but also at Sandgate. In 1903 they were listed as Homœopathic Chemists (wholesale and retail) and Dentist at Centennial Hall, Adelaide Street. At that time Alfred Field was a member of the Pharmacy Board and on the Committee of Management of the College of Pharmacy.
